All right guys welcome back to the real gentleman youtube channel the regal gentleman studio. Today, we've got matthew in the chair. How are you mate, you're, good, good mate? Thank you yeah. So, what's the plan? What are we doing? Well, it's been a lot down cut, as you can tell probably okay i've had it cut once it's like a cobra cut myself: okay, okay, um and the things i like about. I'Ve never had curly hair for so i'm liking. The curliness in my hair, okay, yeah yeah, i like the length on top okay, but i think sometimes it gets a bit heavy back here. I like i've, got a few pictures. Yeah yeah show me yeah, please yeah! Definitely i'm trying to go for like the shum and there's type um. Look. I think the difference is a lot of times. You look mine can victory yeah, we did we did. We did them. That'S callum yeah he's on he's been on the channel yeah yeah yeah. I like that type of hacks um, but just i think, mine's a bit too heavy at the back. The other page show there's a is a guy called callum and we we've had them in the chase, been one of our episodes a couple of couple of years ago now wasn't, i think, what we did for that was we basically left the sides and cut the Back up so it basically become that nowhere near what you've got now, because you've you've there's way too much here now the reason for that i'll just take around the camera, so everyone all the viewers can see is that the reason is you've got a low neckline And every every single person's hairline at the very bottom is always the longest. The points down the knee so set generally that will always grow the longest okay, if you're in a haircut, that's uncut, okay, so, let's just put it into perspective four month lock down everyone's hairline at the back is the lowest point, so that will always look the Longest it'll grow out at the same speed, but it'll be lower down. That'S why you can get away with taking a lot off the back. Okay and it'll still balance in. If you think how low the hairline is here to the ears, it's an awful lot of catching up to do. That'S your men there's picture his hair's. Probably only a little tiny bit shorter than the back here than yours is his hair. Texture is different to yours, though. That'S why it sits a bit better. You'Ve got super thick hair yeah! That'S why it just grows out. You know because there's that much of it, especially with the curls as well, so it depends on the image you like out of the ones you showed me because they are they're similar, but the difference from a technical aspect. Okay, so the show mendes one is again. It'S a bit longer on top than yours by the looks of it. I think i think it's a bit longer. His hairline might be higher, but again his hair's, not as curly. It'S a little bit strange. It'S a bit heavier so it'll fall it'll stretch his chaos out a bit more because it's heavier other one of callum. His neckline is a lot higher, so it essentially is that shape that we've got going on now. Sean'S is more of that shape, but there is a big difference. You know what i mean. There is a very big difference in terms of how much you want off. Could you put your mask down for me cause? My worry is about going too radical with a bomb and maybe sometimes you don't, i'm not sure. If i can pull the radical hair or not yeah, i wouldn't go radical. No, i wouldn't no. I wouldn't because the problem is, you can put that up now. Problem is if we went if we did, if we took it right off the back right up the neckline, i'm quite sure it would essentially be ken's yeah. You know what i mean, which the difference between sean mendes is here and callum's. Here is that they are. I know they're both longer and kind of separate in the middle, but we call callums pretty much into cairns yeah. That was how it was cut, because that way, then, as it grows out, you've got that kind of weight up here and they cut into the size of his face shawn's a difference if it's cut in that way, we'll be able to carry on yeah exactly because I think at the moment, if i grew it out for another month yeah, it would get to completely unmanageable like here and stuff yeah. It will grow unbalanced. That'S the thing when you, when you cut the neckline in especially as tight as you will do to create the similar effect to what columns is. You would end up with it being quite unbalanced yeah, so i would suggest especially now you just said that as well growing, it out was to cut something that is going to be still manageable to grow a little bit longer as well yeah. So what i think we could do is the top length looks fine. I think we just had a bit of shape in the top it'd be awesome avid. So it's a lot easier to work on and i think if you pulled it off one side, that'd be much nicer as well. If you pulled it off your face because with it sitting in the middle, it's nice. But i just think for your your look and everything like that. I think if you wore it a bit off to one side, you kind of scrunch it up a little bit. I always use my old house to always just be basic um yeah sure it's like almost a bit like the same uh, yeah, yeah. Okay, just always go just go that way. Yeah, i don't know. If it might, you might yeah. I think, because the way with your forehead being so so you've got very strong hairline, the more you have cover in it, the more it encloses the face, especially now we're wearing masks everywhere. Now, even just that off your face is quite nice just coming back a bit like that, but the way you've had it when you come in, i want to see you downstairs. It was very much like this yeah very enclosed, and it does. If you put your mask down again for me, it does hide your face yeah. So if you just look at that right, it's his hair's on his coming through the sides here, it's sitting onto his face, obviously we'll remove all that right, not all of it but most of it. Now, if i do this, look, how much more it opens up your face just to wear it over there, i don't! I i wouldn't know how to get out myself. I think i'm going to try and put loads of parts. That'S all about the cut; it just needs balancing, that's it, but i just think you look so much better with it off your face and you've got the hairline. You'Ve got the youth as well. Yeah show it off with that with that hair as well. If i was to go from the side part over to the side, would i be able to still maneuver yeah? That'S that's the thing all we need to do is add the shaping to thin it out a little bit as well. I tend to use the razor for these kind of haircuts quite a lot as well. I'Ll, probably cut it, because you've got the curly hair. I'D cut the primary shape, which is the the the actual cut itself with the scissors. Because, again, when you're working, curly hair, something that gives a more bronzer finish on curly hair makes it look healthier makes it more stronger. It strengthens up the ends as well. The razor adds more separation, more more like of a a sort of scattered serrated finish, which you don't want at the ends of curly hair, because it makes it look like it's like. It'S got split ends. Essentially, that's what i think if you can cut it in a way that just makes it look like it's meant to look like it is today. Okay, so make it look like it's a cut more than you've grown it out. That'S the balance when you've got longer hair, you need options because it does become boring and very heavy, and it makes you society has always believed that, like guys have shorter women have longer hair. You just go. I'M gon na go back to something short. It'S easy! Yeah and long hair can be easy as well. You know it doesn't have to be hard if it's cooked correctly. So i think if we can do that and cut it where it is completely balanced, both sides - we take a little bit of shortness through here, so it does grow out a bit easier for you all right. You happy with that. Yeah sounds good, we'll give it a shampoo and condition and we'll get started all right, so just shampooed and conditioned uh matthew's hair. Now i'm gon na take some sections to this. Now i'm gon na work through a horseshoe section to start with, but i'm gon na maintain the length in the sides again, i'm gon na show you how to do that. It'S all about over direction. Okay, if you just said to say to somebody 10 years ago, i'm going to travel all the way down to london to get a haircut from a guy who lives 15 minutes away from bronco. You think nah, not in a million years, [ Laughter, ]. So just finished the horseshoe pattern. Now what we're going to do is i'm going to maintain the length through the sides here? Okay, because i think we need to keep his muscle through this bit to help the growing process to help it balance, but also we take this neckline up a little bit. It would just balance out the whole haircut okay. So what i'm gon na do to connect to keep this length to the sides here, i'm gon na take a section from just behind the ear like, so i'm just going to comb that out. I'M just going to bring this back now this here we're going to keep and maintain okay through the sides, because that is the sides of the head. Okay, we want to try, we don't want to match up, but we want to take this up a touch. We don't want to be like completely level because it'd be like very bob like i wanted just to keep a little bit of length through there, but we have to break up this bit here as well, so where i've sectioned it off here, i'm going to be Bringing this section all the way over to him. Okay, i'm over directing this length back i'm taking some off to be able to blend it in i'm, going to kind of shorten the neckline down, but i'm not cutting it straight out, bringing it right over to leave all the length through here and create shortness through That back section there bring it out towards me: i'm not taking an awful lot off. I'M really over directing this away from the sides, keep it nice and straight pulling it through now. This is the guide here: okay, i'm gon na bring everything from the front into this. You'Ll get some length coming off, as you can see, there's a guide. What that does? It creates like a sort of blending point like a graduation from the length on the sides to the shortness of the back, but it creates a seamless texture, so maintain all that line through there. But then it allows to have a guide to go shorter on the neck. Think in a section like so i'm gon na pull this straight out now, okay, like so. This is what we start to create a shortness of the back and hold that length of the back as well way too long i'll, pull it straight out, because i still want to maintain the squareness at the back. But i also want to kind of pick the length i want to go to on the neckline myself go straight in the middle towards me and there's my guide. Don'T worry, it looks like there's loads of hair coming off. It'S going to be fine, we're following a guide. That'S the thing i used to always freak out with when i was doing these kind of things for me. Was i've cut too much hair off? I think oh no, i've kind of ruined it, but reality is you're. Following the same guy from before so you're, not going to just trust the process, trust the guides that, as we start to scrunch them up, they start to kill a lot more see. I mean look at this side. Doesn'T do anything it's just too heavy, but the length is still there. Okay as a guide enough tension, so the hair isn't on my pawn matthew, said too hard, but i'm just getting a bit of tension there that i can get a good grip of the hair. There we go well straight towards me. There'S my guide! There we go guide underneath guy from above you see all the shorter layers now flicking out so much easier matthew to do anything with this now as well. You pull that back in to this section here. Remember we're pulling it towards us so towards this back section here, okay else, here we go, lift it up. There'S my guide: there's a guide as well and straight out, like so pull this all the way back into a section, booster hair sitting solid on the left, left-hand side. There we go that's starting to balance out now right, i'm going to pick a length on the neckline. Now i'm going to take this just probably up to about there. Okay, because you can see if i bring this around the collar, you've still got a drop right. Okay, this isn't going to match the bottom okay there. So i think it's about here will be just nice still have that kind of shorter side longer back element, just after being too bob like there, we go straight across the collar and just pull this out straight. As you get to the sides, just behind the ear, there won't be any hair to get okay. If you were to angle your fingers this way there would be, but as we bring our fingers straight down, that's enough. That is perfect. It might not look a lot, but with all the other things you've done within this haircut, it will be perfect there. We go just going to break up this with the razor so from say the middle to the end and do some quite thick chunks. Okay, still here still there, but you can see exactly where i use. The razor section is what i took out. Okay, all we need what's going to do, is going to thin out the hair. Okay, it's going to take short of it too, because we're graduating short or long short long. It'S not like a step. It'S not like one chunk of hair has been removed. It'S been sliced through which will break up and thin out the sides. All the shorter curlier hair will make the longer hair much easier to flow, much easier to work around big section now and just slide in to that like so, as you can see, if i pull it out, see the sections that we took again, pull it out Same thing again slide it again. So that's to be perfect. I don't have no texture, nothing much that curls up it's not as heavy it's not as thick. You can see that then you can see. The thickness is gone already, so take a section just from off center and bring this all the way down and cut level okay, so wherever the shortest point is match up, okay, all the way down a little, a few longer hairs there same again. I don't want our fringe to be too long. We don't get disconnected, must be the same length, a few little bits right, just on a slight angle, right, you're, going to see a little point right there. Okay, so, as you point out, you'll see the short layers from the top and the short layers from underneath that we've cut and you're just going to take a little point off nice and blunt okay, just sporadic sections all that's going to do is create some shorter Layers through the top, it's going to fall a lot looser off, so you can see i'm cutting it blunt, but then we're going to it's creating shorter layers sitting all the way through. So as that grows out, it's going to grow really nicely. It'S going to grow a texture with shape i'll pull out there. That'S the crown okay, just before the crown cut that straight on now do exactly the same as what we just did the other side. So, first of all bring this down. We match shortest points. The longest points there we go short there take that off and a little point there's a lot of points like that. There'S a show bit. There'S a sharpie and cut pull that nice and straight that's going to keep that squareness through the back again. Take the front off make sure it's even a few little long ones there from the previous cut. I think i just probably from your cut that way. There we go come on. She hasn't watched our videos, no offense, matthew's mum, it's a nice quote. It really is lovely cut, raise your son very well as well. You know very polite when he came in now as we get to the back here. We'Re gon na have a lot of length. Okay, because, if you think about how short we were taking the back, this is the crown the back here. Okay, the whole element we're going to follow that guide. I'M going to take it off, i'm just angling, it slightly towards me as well. I'M going to have a lot of length through here i'm going to follow that guide, as you can see guys that i've just cut from the top and the guy from underneath. Now you see that from the back, keeping it nice and square. So, as i falls out, i'm not sure even loads of length sitting over. So it's going to sit really heavy and bulbous at the back is going to sit nice and square short layer, short layer short there. No going down to length go to a section match, bring it back and match. Let me just cut that one before so. That'S perfect! There we go now, i'm going to finish at the top with a little bit of razor work. Okay, so let's take a section and just off the center, like you did before now, where we did before we pulled it right down to cut i'm gon na. Take the sections again, i'm gon na pull it out. I'M just gon na work. The razor into this. Now somebody break that up. Okay, again, i'm just trying to thin the hair out, make it really manageable, really easy. It'S still quite thick. I just want that to sit really nicely for take one section now past the center pull it over. Now i've done this a lot of the time you know the haircuts, but if you cut it into a center part, it normally will fall into a center part if you don't cut it into a center part because of either side of the part of this. Of the center part itself, it will just give more options. It will fall a bit easier as well. Okay, it will be cut straight into a center part, but it'll still give obviously matthew the option if he does want it to fall central. He still can here. We go now. I'M gon na go back now and work from just from before the roots and just do some really long. Sliding slices, because i'll just create a bit of collapse through here as well. Shorter head on the bottom it'll fall a bit heavier as well. Right like that, it's not enough for it to be like sticking out or anything, especially with matthew's curly hair, not going to spike out or anything. That'S all! There'S too much weight of the hair, as you can see, i'm not doing i'm not being too aggressive with it just a little bit. It'S all. You need some honestly stars like this. Less is so much more. It really is. You see, i'm talking awful length off. Matthew'S here, but we've created such a lovely shape to it a lot of sections put it over slide them through from the center to the ends like so just mess up the fringe and start back here like that around. Here too, there we go again one off center again from the previous section, pull that over i'm just working just a little bit. It doesn't need too much now off the center off the roots, just pulling off like that and do a long slice like that to make it as natural as possible. Not there that's all we really need to do so. What we'll do now is i'm going to dry a little bit of hair cream into this okay, just to help him move it around. As you can see, it falls easy there. It falls easy there as well. It falls literally all over the place for them. So we can create a very different look each time a little bit of cream. I want to do i put in roughly about a pea-sized amount. I don't need a lot, i'm just working it through the hair like so because it is again very creamy and it'll go in and you don't need an awful lot. Okay, this style is meant to be very low maintenance, very easy, i'm just rubbing it in. Okay. All that's going to do is add that little bit of extra butter - i don't want it so greasy it doesn't look like he's, got anything really in his hair. I just want to look like he's natural, like that. I know. Shawn mendes picture was quite wet. Looking so he can do that if he wants, but you know reality is it won't say that forever, that's just an image, that's just you know it's probably a photo shoot for gq or something that's been wet down. You know a bit of water. Most of the time, so you know you've got to take these images with a bit of a slight realistic approach, because you know these are done. For particular, you know shots and images, and things like that, so would it be best to put that in after the shower when it's wet or yeah towel dried okay. So your hair is pretty much tower dried now, because we've just started drying naturally in the air. So what you do, is you scrunch it so when it comes to drying the hair as well with anything like longer, hair or curly hair is don't rub the towel because it causes friction. It makes it static. Scrunch. The hair like this with the towel, like that and just kind of squeeze squeegee the hair and what i'll do is, helps it won't kind of add any friction to the hair, but also it'll help to dry a bit better for you as well. At the moment, do this as much as possible and it goes bigger. I'Ve been, i used to want to show how you said: matte paste, but now you don't need to now yeah. To be honest, i think you could still use the broken if you wanted to, but it depends on look you're trying to achieve. I think for this putting product in when it's tower dried and drying, anything with a diffuser or let it dry, naturally you're gon na get the best look all right. The best image all you do now is just use the diffuse like that. Don'T need to scrub the hair or anything else. You can move it. If you want off your face - or you literally just hold the diffuse and let it dry off it's as close to naturally drying your hair as possible, without forcing the hair to dry in one direction. Okay, so if you make it over curly, you can scrunch it between your fingers. If you want to bring that kale out a bit more like that, you can scrunch it. As you see it doesn't blow the hair much it just dries. It i'm just pushing the hair off as it dries just to create nice put a wave in there. That is very short mended! That'S that now, so you can, if you want to breathe big and wild, just hold it around there dry. If you want to break the curls or you can just scrunch your fingers and kind of just massage the hair, almost you know: [ Applause ] there you go in the mirror just beforehand. When you talk to yeah yeah, exactly it's just balanced out now, yeah. It'S just balanced the whole shape of it now looks like it's been cut away. That'S that is exactly what we were going for. That'S the only look i was trying to achieve, for you is something you can keep growing yourself. That looks like you've done. You know that you've actually had a cut. I'Ve left that bit hanging down because it's facial members, you don't have to have it if you don't want to, but i just thought for the purpose of the video be quite nice, so you can see the exact effect you can get. But as you see everything's the same length all pulled up the same, but it just grows out a little bit easier. Now as well happy with the length yeah yeah yeah, it looks quicker mate. I love it absolutely. I wish i had your hair. You know i really do make you can do so much with it. You know you're so surprised. If you fancy cut it off. Let us know all right, yeah, yeah yeah. Of course, the thing is like i was saying, like less is more with longer, especially on guys it's just balancing most of the time, because a lot, not a lot of guys, know how they want to style their hair. They might have like i'm fortunate with yourself today that you brought in pictures yeah, that's it, but that's i try and encourage everybody who's watching to bring in pictures because it makes life so much easier for me for you, you know if you show a picture something With long hair, then they get a clip rose. You can go whoa. What are you doing? Because that obviously isn't meant to be right? So i think it just gives you that little bit of i don't know balance like sort of on the same page as the barber. You know, if you show them a picture, you go out. This is my idea whether it'll work - i don't know you tell me exactly yeah exactly and then it comes out. Looking the same, even better, all right, you

You’re a FatNeek: I’ve just stumbled across you guys and you’re perfect I’ve got similar but longer and slightly curlier hair than this guy and it’s currently purple and has been for a while so I’m going to be taking the dye out and then will for sure be filling a form out and can be cut styled and dyed however to be honest I’m stuck

Elninoo: Outstanding mate. If I was still in London I'd 100% be makin the trip up to you. My hair was prob as long as his last week, went to new barber to get it cut, man didn't speak English or German (livin in germany now) and basically butchered my hair. Had showed him a photo but he barely glanced at it. He didn't seem comfortable cutting longer hair at all.

Ciclopea2: When you show the before and after towards the end i always nod and smile like it's my hair lol, even more so in this case with Matthew who has my dream hair, and a beautiful haircut to boot :)

sue burt: my favorite barber to follow, always great cuts

luuk koffeman: What hair products do you recommend for this hairstyle? I recently got my hair cut in the same style and have the same hair type

Raphaël Valentin: Hey! Thanks for the amazing content always :) what products did you use to stylé his hair please? Thanks!

Davin: One thing I've always wondered, why are combs black? You'd think it would be easier to see guides and such with a white comb on dark hair.

Dan: Fantastic consultation. So detailed and no rushing

Hide: Hey great video I wish I had someone like you to cut my hair, nobody by me really has skill with long hair. Also how do you think I can get rid of frizz? My hair is a little shorter than his.

oaguirre013: What kind of hair cream or what brand did you use at the end for styling? Been looking for a product my hair is about as long as the model in the video and everything I've used is too strong of a hold or leaves my hair super dry and frizzy

John Ferradino: I've watched this video about 10 times now. This is pretty close to what my hair looks like. I'm thinking I'm gonna try cutting it myself. let's hope I don't totally F it up!

5purplecups: I love to get a haircut by this man

alish khadka: My hair is exactly like shwan mendes but looks so rough compared to his like my comb gets stucked in my hair and it's very fizzy. U r blessed to have curlness, softness and have that shiny feature at the same time

TJ C: Got similar wavy / curly hair like this, lays real thick on back & sides mullet style & that's when it gets annoying! defo keep the curls as barbers always cut too much off & regret it! This is a great cut BTW.

Brandon Mitchell: Love the talking before the actual cut, something u dont see in alot of barber videos. Bravo

Blake: I wish I had a barber like this. I really like having longer hair my hair is long right now but I need to get it shaped in order for it to look good but I know I won’t find someone as good as Dan so I’m just gonna have to cut it short unfortunately.

Alan osvaldo Cheu Gonzalez: What is the product you use to style it?

rrodd80: great cur, congrats for the new place. Cheers from Argentina

GreenPigKing: Where should I go to get my hair cut like this??? I’ve always gone to sports clips but they’re not usually very skilled and I worry they’ll only make my unbalanced hair worse. Considering going to a women’s hair salon but don’t know if they’re going to be good with men’s long haircuts.

JimmY: he has beautiful hair though, man id kill for hair like that

Busy B: This is what my son is working towards but his hair is much thicker and curlier, I probably spend more time doing his hair than my own

goldfinger1970: The client looked shocked when told his hair isn’t exactly like Shawn Mendes.

luis alvarado: What’s the name of the haircut? Amazing job btw!!!

Alexander Carlson Lee: Hello, what is the speed and heat that you use on the diffuser sir?

John Smith: In ur new studio, you might think about putting a mic on your customer. It’s harder to hear in this room, even considering there isn’t any background noise now. One mans opinion...lol

Pame: looks pretty good

MambaMentality: I have hair like this and it is so hard to find videos about my type of hair, this is the only I have found.

Jota Vollmer: Dan ... did you know that MC Barber, one of the best barbers in the USA is your admirer?

Barnzy GFX: with this sort of hair, what’s the crack with Shampoo and Conditioner (how often etc.)? Cheers

How should he cut his hair so it looks decent while he's growing the top out?

lord arpvc: I wish my curls would be like his

Rain Man: I have the same hair but if I do this look it’s super frizzy and puffy after a while

Flynn Bobby: What a handsome lad Edit: no homo.
